About
Utilizing what she experienced on a research study to Antarctica, Alli Fisher’s work became an exploration of ice. It is an examination of ice as a material that can be manipulated and formed. The process in which ice builds and rebuilds itself, each time the structure changing and exposing a new diverse array of properties through light and texture fascinates her.
The properties are juxtaposed, as ice possesses strength, destructiveness, and danger as well as, smoothness, kindness, and beauty. The processes which icebergs endure through thousands of years create the beauty that we see today.
Her work is dependent upon process. By layering, removing, and building paint, her paintings parallel the awe-inspiring process of their creation. The installation of glass, mirrors the properties characterized in icebergs by the dangerous but reflective and refractive qualities of ice.
She has exhibited in shows in Washington D.C. Virginia, and Washington. She had her own show, “Glaciology,” at the Armory Gallery in Blacksburg, VA, as well as, at Kakao in Seattle, Washington. She has a BFA from Virginia Tech and a BA in Psychology from Virginia Tech.
